INSTALLATION GUIDE

FRAME INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Step 1: Remove Cover Lid – Remove Wunder-Cover lid(s). Bend down safety-net lug to approximately 45°.

Step 2: Attach Snap-Clips to Frame Attach 4 snap-clips to the Wunder-Cover frame perimeter. Position clips evenly around the frame to ensure balanced net support. Clips secure the Safety-Net mesh to the frame edges.

Step 3: Secure & Tension Net Ensure net is properly tensioned across the opening with no sagging. All clips must be securely fastened. Snap-rings can be replaced with padlocks if extra security is required to prevent unauthorized removal.

Step 4: Test & Replace Lid Test that all clips are secure and net is taut. Replace Wunder-Cover lid(s). Safety-Net is now in place providing fall protection whenever the lid is removed for maintenance or inspection access.

FAQ

Frequently Asked

What is a Safety-Net?

A Safety-Net is a fall protection system that sits beneath manhole covers. When the cover is removed for access, the net prevents workers, pedestrians, or equipment from accidentally falling into the open chamber.

What load can Safety-Nets support?

Safety-Nets are independently tested to 150kg without failure. This provides reliable fall protection for workers accessing manholes and chambers.

Are Safety-Nets required by law?

While specific requirements depend on the work situation, NZ health and safety regulations require hazard management at open excavations and chambers. Safety-Nets provide an effective control measure for fall hazards.

How do Safety-Nets attach?

Safety-Nets use a four-point snap-clip attachment system that connects to the Wunder-Cover frame. Installation takes seconds and requires no tools.

Can Safety-Nets be used with non-Wunder-Cover manholes?

Safety-Nets are designed for Wunder-Covers but may be adaptable to other manhole types. Contact us to discuss compatibility with your specific application.

Are Safety-Nets reusable?

Yes. Safety-Nets are designed for repeated installation and removal. The durable polyester netting and stainless steel fixings withstand regular use.

What happens if someone falls on the net?

The net is tested to 150kg and will catch the person, preventing them from falling into the chamber. The snap-clip system and frame support distribute the load safely.

Can the net be secured against tampering?

Yes. The anti-tamper bolt down systems are available POA

ABOUT ATS SAFETY-NETS

Open manholes and inspection chambers are high-risk hazards on work sites. Falls into chambers cause serious injuries and fatalities. When covers are removed for maintenance or inspection, immediate fall protection is essential.

THE RISK

Workers, pedestrians, or equipment can fall into open chambers. Even experienced workers can lose footing or misjudge the opening, particularly on busy sites or in poor visibility. The consequences are severe – falls of 2+ meters into confined spaces often result in serious injury.

APPLICATIONS

Essential for council maintenance crews, contractors, utility companies, and facilities managers who regularly access manholes and chambers. Particularly important in high-traffic areas, pedestrian zones, or sites with multiple workers.

COMPLIANCE

NZ health and safety regulations require hazard management at open excavations and chambers. Safety-Nets provide a practical, cost-effective control measure that demonstrates proactive safety management.
